On April 10, 2025, a meeting of the rector’s office, directors of the institutes of navigation, engineering, automation and electromechanics, the head of the practice and employment department with representatives of Ukrainian crewing companies was held at the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”. The meeting was attended by the heads and representatives of the companies: MSC Crewing Services, V.Ships (Ukraine), Alpha Navigation, CMA Ships Ukraine, Marlow Navigation, Stargate Ukraine, Columbia Shipmanagement Ukraine, Eurocrew, ASP Crew Management, Uniteam Marine, Anglo-Eastern, Staff Centre, Epsilon Odessa, Ocean Link, as well as a representative of the Marine Transport Workers’ Trade Union of Ukraine. Acting Rector of the Academy, Professor Mykhaylo Miyusov acquainted those present with information about the visit of Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mychailo Wynnyckyj to the Academy, a meeting with the rectors and representatives of the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” and the Odessa National Maritime University, dedicated to the issues of optimizing the network of higher maritime educational institutions. It is planned to create a new legal entity that will concentrate the education and training of ship officers on the basis of the academy’s institutes.
In addition, the issues of holding final certification in 2025, and the possibility of holding a unified state qualification exam abroad were discussed. This initiative is successfully supported by the Marine Transport Workers’ Trade Union of Ukraine. However, today there are a significant number of organizational difficulties for the implementation of this project, and there is practically no time left. The meeting participants agreed that graduates must return to Ukraine to ensure completion of their studies, receive a diploma of graduation and a certificate of competency. After passing the final certification, based on its results, graduates will have the opportunity to enter the next educational level (master’s for bachelors and bachelor’s for a professional junior bachelor) and be sent to companies to continue practical training, including internships in officer positions. The results of the cadets’ on-board training in 2024 and the prospects for its implementation in 2025 were discussed. More than a thousand cadets of the academy have successfully completed their training abroad on the vessels of more than a hundred companies. Acting Rector, Professor Mykhaylo Miyusov thanked the partners for their close cooperation and support of the academy. The meeting participants expressed satisfaction with the professional exchange of opinions on the issues of education, training and employment of the academy’s cadets.
