Educational and Scientific Institute of Engineering

Risunok2

The Institute of Engineering trains highly qualified competitive ship engineers – specialists for the international maritime industry through the acquisition of knowledge on the management of the operation of ship technical systems and complexes, with an in-depth study of the basic requirements and rules of international conventions and codes, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the ship, as well as other competencies required for:

  • occupation of the positions of officers on sea and river vessels;
  • ensuring that students of higher education acquire competencies in accordance with the standards of competence defined by the requirements of rules III/1, III/2, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3, VI/4, VI/6 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended;
  • ensuring compliance with the requirements for practical training established by rule III/1 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended.

A high level of training is provided by the scientific and pedagogical staff of NUOMA, which constantly improves qualifications (internships) to improve professional knowledge and skills under its own programs or in cooperation with national and foreign institutions of higher education. These are PhDs, Candidates and Doctors of Sciences, Associate professors, and Professors, some of whom continue to work on ships as engineers, combining teaching with work at sea.

The modern training and laboratory base of the Institute of Engineering of NUOMA ensures the acquisition of practical knowledge and skills in managing the main engine and the mechanisms and systems that serve it, the ship electrical power plant and auxiliary mechanisms, including familiarization with actions in critical situations:

A full-size simulator of the engine room of the Norwegian developer Kongsberg, certified according to the requirements of the classification society DNV.
A full-scale engine room simulator K-Sim (6 workplaces, 122.2 m2).
A full-scale simulator of a ship diesel installation of the “Dieselsim” type.
ERS 4000 marine diesel engine simulator (12 workplaces, 163.4 m2).
A laboratory of marine internal combustion engines.
A scientific and technical park “Transport safety”.
A research and production center “Energetics”.
A center for survival in extreme conditions at sea.
A swimming pool and survivability laboratory (5306,4 m2).
Boat simulator (18,1 m2).
A machine and boiler room laboratory (212,1 m2).
A laboratory of ship power engineering (1089 m2).
A laboratory of marine internal combustion engines (250,4 m2) and others.

During the entire history of the training of certified ship engineers, a high level and compliance with the international requirements have been repeatedly confirmed by Ukrainian and international qualification organizations. In 2018, NUOMA passed an inspection by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), which confirmed a high level of educational services, a high-quality examination system, a high level of special equipment and simulators, and a high qualification of teachers and instructors of NUOMA.

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology of Great Britain, London, accredited the program (2018) of preparation for the international equivalent MRes (Graduate Specialist Diploma), which indicates that the system of training by specialization “Management of ship technical systems and complexes” meets the requirements of the standards of professional competence of engineers in the Engineering Council of Great Britain. This accreditation allows a graduate of Educational and Scientific Institute (ENI) of NUOMA, after gaining practical experience, to obtain professional registration as a certified engineer (СEng), which opens up wide opportunities for career growth on the international workplace market.
