On April 17, 2017, the inspectors of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) arrived at National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” to conduct a regular (scheduled) check of the national system of education, training and certification of seafarers, medical standards for compliance with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978, as amended and Directive 2008/106/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council dated 19.11.08 on the minimum level of training of seafarers.
The inspection group consisted of Heviy Rodriguez Antonio, Chairman of the Commission and Andrzej Batitski arrived at the University accompanied by Basyuk Alexander Grigorovich, Director of the Department for Reforming and Operating of Maritime and River Transport at the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Kudlinskiy Sergey Petrovich, Acting Head of the Inspectorate for Training and Certification of Seafarers (ITCS), Morgunenko Sergey Aleksandrovich, Deputy Head of Quality Management Department of Inspectorate for Training and Certification of Seafarers, Lavrynenko Vladimir Yulianovich, a leading specialist of the European Integration Group of the International Department of State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine and Balanyuk Sergey Vasyliovych, Head of the DKK sector of the Odessa Regional Branch of ITCS.
The main purpose of the EMSA inspection is to determine the compliance of the educational system, training, medical standards and certification of seafarers in accordance with the STCW requirements. The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) assesses national educational systems on behalf of the EU member states even in countries outside the European Union.
Once again NU “OMA” has confirmed compliance with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978, as amended in the field of maritime education.
