Senior Lecturer of the Department of Maritime English at the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” (NUOMA), Olena Khrolenko, participated in the First International Early Career Academic Forum (Forum), organized and support by the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) in cooperation with the Nippon Foundation.
The Forum took place on July 13–14 in Tokyo, Japan. The Forum was held under the theme “Charting a Course for the Future of Maritime Education and Training”.
The Forum brought together representatives from IAMU-member maritime universities to discuss innovative approaches to maritime education, the advancement of scientific research, the enhancement of professional competencies for future maritime professionals, the role of maritime universities in the development of the maritime industry, and the integration of artificial intelligence into maritime education and training.
The Forum participants worked in thematic groups, drafting proposals for the practical implementation of the ideas developed during the Forum within their universities. The primary goal of these strategies was to strengthen international academic cooperation, modernize curricula, and foster joint research projects in the maritime sector.
An important component of the event was a technical tour, during which participants visited the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, explored the historical exhibition at the Yokohama Nippon Maru Memorial Park, and toured the ultra-modern Minatomirai area. This practical experience provided valuable insights into Japan’s advanced infrastructure, technological achievements, and maritime heritage, inspiring participants to introduce new approaches into their educational practice.
Participation in the Forum provided NUOMA with an opportunity to strengthen its international academic engagement, showcase its research and educational achievements, and expand cooperation with leading maritime higher education institutions worldwide.
