Dscn959On September 13, 2018 Memorandum of Understanding on research cooperation was signed between National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” and Maritieme Academie Harlingen. The academic cooperation will promote further educational collaboration and reseach as well as cultural understanding.

The meeting was attended by M.V. Miyusov, the Rector of NU «OMA» and Haije Arend Leendert Mintjes, Director of Maritieme Academie Harlingen, Jörn Josef Boll (M.A.), Head of Project Department of Maritieme Academie Harlingen.

The purpose of Memorandum of Understanding is to develop and establish a designated “Train the Trainer” program for educational personnel aiming on the navigation on the Dnepr river, by which the participants will gain the skills and capacities to educate skippers to be able to sail on contemporary inland waterway vessels in accordance with European practices, as laid lown in the new EU directive 2017/2397/EU on the recognition of professional qualifications in inland navigation. Another objective of this MOU is to strenghten ties between the Parties and to promote research cooperation and to further the understanding of the culture of the two countries concerned.

Besides, the signature of Memorandum enables the Parties to encourage and seek opportunities and prospects to cooperate on students and academic staff exchange visits on the basis of joint educational programs. The parties will also seek possibilities to cooperate in research for the mutual benefit to participate in conferences, symposia as well as to encourage the exchange of research materials, publications and information.

At the end of the meeting the guests were given an excursion around the university’s academic buildings and the facilities.
