2Electrical Engineering and Radio Electronics Faculty of National University «Odessa Maritime Academy» conducted traditionally the eighth annual Scientific and Methodical Conference «Ships’ electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation — SEEA-2018» from 5 till 6, December.

Electrical Engineering and Radio Electronics Faculty of NU «OMA» is the leading Ukrainian expert in the training of high-quality specialists for the navy, once again provided the opportunity for scientists, lecturers and cadets (students) to take part in the conference and acquaint themselves with the world of modern developments and technologies.

The topics of the conference were divided into 9 sections covering a wide range of relevant scientific and methodological directions, namely: energy saving, energy efficiency and reliability of electromechanical systems; quality of electric energy; technical operation of modern electric equipment and control systems of ships; modern marine power systems; mathematical modeling of processes and phenomena in elements of power plants and devices in electrical and radio engineering; issues of information security, as well as educational and professional standards.1

For the first time, the conference (including its main reports) was registered in the international system of administration of the scientific conferences EasyChair, covering thousands of scientific conferences around the world. This became possible thanks to the creation of the conference site http://femire.onma.edu.ua. Owing to this event, for the first time, the representatives of foreign states, in particular Lala Bhaskar, Pradeep Kumar, Kishore Nai Mude (India), Kandakzi Kamal (Jordan), Kosmas Zdrozis (Greece) participated in the conference.

As a result, the conference may be considered to be approaching new and international level.

The work of the conference was opened at the plenary session, where M.V. Miyusov, the Rector of National University «Odessa Maritime Academy», Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor delivered an introductory speech and reported on the current state of scientific activity at the University and the development of material and technical support.

8V.A. GolikovDeputy Rector on Scientific Work, Doctor of Technical Sciences presented a report on the strategic tasks of navigation in Ukraine up to 2030. V.M. Zakharchenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Affairs, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor considered the issues of the modernization of educational programmes in the context of the implementation of the provisions of the EAPO and the requirements of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, taking into account the Manila Amendments ratified by Ukraine.5

V.А. Shevchenko, Head of Ships’ Technical Operation Department, Ph.D., Associate Professor reported on the prospects of training machines development in the engine room in the training of ship engineers in the operation of marine electrical power plants.

Over 50 reports on topical issues related to modern marine engineering, electronics and automation were presented at sectional meetings due to the active participation of cadets, specialists, masters, postgraduates and departments of Electrical Engineering and Radio Electronics Faculty as well as specialists representing other educational institutions.

As every year, the best works of graduate students are to be selected to participate in the second stage of the All-Ukrainian competition of scientific works according to the conference’s results. Having made the best reports, young and talented scientists were awarded diplomas for their active particiaption in the conference.

As usual, a collection of scientific works of the conference is being prepared for publication.
