Maritime Law and Management Faculty of NU ”OMA” held a series of events on the occasion of the Ukrainian Law Week from 4 till 8 December, 2017.
On December 4, 2017 within the framework of the Law Week the forth year cadets of Maritime Law and Management Faculty held a management game “Court session” on civil law and the process of obstacle removal in the use of home ownership, the deprivation of the right to use the premises, the removal from the registration and the counterclaim against the plaintiff about the invalidation of the contract of sale and the state act on the ownership land, the third persons of citizenship and immigration sector and registration of the physical persons of Regional Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs Administration of Ukraine, Odessa and the Executive Committee of Odessa City Council. In addition, the participants prepared procedural documents and recreated the trial, demonstrated theoretical knowledge of civil law, oratorical and practical skills of conducting litigation.
The criminology competition for the best imitation of the consequences causing death through violence (using a training mannequin) took place as well. The second year cadets turned out to be the best ones according to the competition results. They managed not only to reveal their creativity, but also improve their knowledge of criminalistics and make a significant contribution to the University’s criminalistics laboratory.
On December 6, 2017, an information seminar on “MLC Convention, 2006: Expectations of Ukrainian Seafarers. Review and Discussion of the Main Provisions and Real Examples” was held for the cadets of all specialties. Yevgeniy Sukachev, a former graduate of NU ”OMA”, a lawyer, a board member of the Ukrainian Maritime Bar Association addressed the audience. During the seminar, the participants disclosed the essence and significance of MLC 2006, the state for implementing certain provisions, the degree of implementation of the latest additions. Separately, the existing practice on the employment conditions, minimum requirements for seafarers on board, health and social welfare, medical care was analyzed. Real examples of the protection of seafarers’ rights were provided with the help of MLC standarts, 2006.
On December 7, 2017, the 3rd International Student Scientific and Practical Conference “Maritime Law and Management: Evolution and Modern Challenges” was held. Teachers, students, graduates presented their scientific articles and theses.
On December 8, 2017, the fair of scientific ideas took place during which the following cadets of the 3rd and 5th courses of Law and Management specialties participated with their reports: A.S. Pishchemukha, “Innovative project to restore coastal transportation”; U. Vinogradova, “Efficiency of using the principle of a national carrier in the grain segment”; M. Bogodukhova, Restoration of a planetarium in NU “OMA”; D. Toropenko, Reconstruction of the old cinema in the crew. Creation of coworking and creative space on the basis of the library in the crew.
