The Meeting of the International Maritime Organization, the Nautical Institute, the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology took place in National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” on April 19, 2017. M.V. Miyusov, the Rector of NU «ОМА» made an introductory statement and noted that the University’s representatives take part in the events of these organisations every year.
Hiroyuki Yamada, Senior Deputy Director of Operational Safety and Human Element, Maritime Safety Division made the presentation on IMO’s activities and the main objectives aimed at developing international regulations, concerning maritime safety and sacurity, pollution prevention and facilitation of maritime traffic. Moreover, he told about the IMO’s structure and gave the presentation on “Human element vision, principles and goals” that involved the entire spectrum of human activities performed by ships. Hiroyuki Yamada emphasized the importance of implementation of ISM code and the STCW Convention which were the most important matters in relation to human element.
John Lloyd, Chief Operating Officer of the Nautical Institute held a lively debate with the cadets of NU “OMA” and stressed the importance of improving their professional growth and knowledge as well as their support after graduation.
Paul James, Chief Operating Officer of IMarEST discussed a number of problematic issues arising in the marine industry and the possibility of its solutions. NU “OMA” cadets actively participated in the discussion with the guests of the University.
